The unique, grand architecture and layout of the town was inspired by the Italian town of Alsinore and was funded by the wealth generated from its coal mining industry, which ceased in the 1960s. The small footprint of the town means that the incredibly popular Discovery Park, Creamery House with its Lady Ann Restaurant and the boutique Avalon House Hotel are all within a short stroll of each other.
Golfers will be delighted with the magnificent Castlecomer Golf Club, boasting some of the finest woodland scenery in Ireland. Thrill seekers of all ages will find a huge range of high adrenaline activities as the Discovery Park. The culturally curious will be delighted with the craft shops, mining museum and pop-up art galleries nestled in the side streets. For more sedate outdoor fun, boating, angling, woodland walks and cycling are all available throughout the year.
