Harvest Street Food Festival Castlecomer

Castlecomer Harvest Street Food festival

The Beautiful Estate Yard once the farmyard and stables of Castlecomer House, played host to its second Street Food Festival on Friday 30th August.

Contrary to the forecasted rain and wind it was a beautiful sunny autumnal evening and perfect for the outdoor celebration. The event was advertised as ‘plastic free’ and everyone was encouraged to bring their own cup or beaker.  But no need to panic if you forgot your cup, refill.ie provided reusable cups for a €2 refundable deposit.  This proved very successful and cut down hugely on the amount of waste generated by the event.

A number of food and beverage stalls including Fintan White’s Sheep Shack from Freshford, The Good Farm free range pork from minutes down the road, Breagagh Artisan Meats from Kilkenny, Castlecomer based Olivia’s Raw Treats, Costellos Brew Co and Highbank Orchards, The Redwood Café, Dick Dooley and The Hartrey Kitchen filled the yard with their gourmet offerings.

The very talented and Lively ‘Knots down and Out’ lead by Castlecomer man Mark Rothwell played a super selection of songs from Johnny Cash to The Saw Doctors.  The yard buzzed with laughter and chat as the sun set and the lights came on. The now traditional bonfire burned long into the evening and provided warmth for the late evening chats.

It was a lovely celebration of community, good local food and music in a much loved historical setting.

The event was organised as part of the Town Branding project funded under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
